Pickled Watermelon Salad

Aka going out on a limp and experiment in the kitchen (and on this blog!)! Yes, I am venturing into food! Remember this article? I am slowly but surely pushing myself to overcome that lack of self confidence and food photography skills, and put myself and my food out there! A fresh take on a summer side dish, my interest in this recipe was first tickled, or should I say pickled (#puninteded), when I saw it on a cooking show on tv. I adapted the recipe to my family’s taste, gave it a go, and there we had it: instant hit! If you’re having a family BBQ on a hot summer’s eve these next few months, add this to your table, next to the potato salad & corn on the cob and enjoy! Oh, and please do read to the end for delicious second spin on this recipe! (#2forthepriceofone) Ingredients:  1 watermelon (preferably 1 – 1.5 kg) 275ml apple cider vinegar 500ml water 1 cup white sugar 2 tbsp salt zest and juice of 1 …

Packing Strategies

Packing for four is not quite the same as packing for 2, the equasion of double the people, double the amount of stuff simply does not work. After two years and several holidays with our little family of four, I’ve developed a few packing strategies along the way that have made the whole proces easier and less stressfull. Strategy #1: Multifunctional products One soap that works for all 4 of us, an after sun that is rich enough to double as a body cream, one eyepalette that can create a myriad of looks and bronzer that can work as a powder, a bronzer or a blush… you get the gist, it’s all about products that have more than one function. Less products = more space Strategy #2: Mini’s for Mum’s skincare Mini’s can have a maxi impact on the size of my make up bag, especially when it comes to the skincare I want to take along for just myself. A lot of websites let you choose a few samples when you place an order …

Summerproof

Summer and a full face of make up don’t really match. Sweat streaked foundation, blotchy bronzer, runny mascara, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I hardly wear any make up in the summer, my collection just gets to gather dust in my vanity during these months, but on days where I need a little touch up before a meeeting, here’s what I go for. Philosophy’s No Reason To Hide still is my light base of choice. All in one go, it evens out my skin, adds a touch of radiance and adds in the SPF50 I need. A little dab of Giorgio Armani Eraser Concealer covers those traces of a long night, with the Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara in Black Satin to take my eyes from “just awake” to “here’s where the magic’s at!” Jane Iredale’s Golden Shimmer is the ideal highlighter on days like today. I gently appply some on the apples of my cheeks, and the soft golden sheen scumpts them a little, without being too orange. Not a chunk of glitter in …

Dior Tie Dye Collection SS15 – Love at first sight

Summer seems to be kicking it up a notch outside, but my skin doesn’t seem to be following just yet! In need of that lightly sunkissed touch, I’ve been looking at all the new Spring/Summer collections, but in all honesty, I’ve been too mesmerized by the Dior Tie Dye Collection to notice anything else. A beautified re-interpretation of the seventies-esque spirit of the tie-dye fashion, Dior created beauty out of the hippie fashion favourite. Shades of coral, pink, mauve, jade, sandy beige and amber bronze fade into one another like a beachy sunset. More Saint Tropez than Woodstock, the promotional images are more than dream-worthy, and now that the collection is out, I’ve been lusting after it’s pieces even more! Up high on my wishlist are the two Diorskin Nude Tan Tie Dye Blush Harmony powders. Pink Sunrise and Coral Sunset are both limited editions, and they could not be swoon-worthier! A touch of wun for your face, these light up your complexion as if you’ve just returned from a long weekend on the French Riviera. Complemented perfectly by …

It’s going to be a Talking French summer!

March has kicked in, Saint Patricks Day colours the world a delicious shade of green today, I can feel Spring peeping round the corner, and I for one am done! Done with big knits, chucky boots, oversized scarves up to my eyes, and as much as I could live in cashmere sweaters almost all year round, I am now craving lighter textiles, softer touches, delicate pairings and livelier colours. Looks like Talking French read my memo for the sunny season! Light, airy, feminine, a daily dose of wearable glamour are only a few of the cornerstones on which this Belgian brand has built it’s foundation , and season after season the collections they present are firecrackers! Not one to go black, their pieces are a kaleidoscope of colours, brightening the greyest of winter days and enhancing the chirpiest of sunny spring days with their elegant prints and silky smooth fabrics. This spring, LA dreamin’ is what it is all about! Infusing their latest collection with a dose of LA cool, it makes me dream of mellow yellow mornings, those first …
