Garancia Immortal Express Shot

Marseille, La Douce France. A young girl, growing up in her great-grandfather’s pharmacie, discovers a passion for botanics and plant-based cosmetics, and rooted in that early passion and with generations worth of knowledge of plants and their cosmetic properties running through her veins, Savéria Coste founded her own brand, Garancia, or as she likes to call it “l’alchimie botanique du futur” (the botanical alchemy of the future). A brand not quike like the rest, the product names seem to come straight from the Wicked Witch of the East’s book of Potions, and each of her offerings is a bit of a wizarding trick. 10 years ago, Garancia launched their first product, the Pschtt Magique,  and French women everywhere just flocked en masse to their local pharmacie or Sephora. This exfoliating mousse really put a spell on everyone that tried it  * note to self – must do a separate post on the Pschtt Magique, would’t be too kind of me to just leave you hanging here like this, now would it. And it’s just that incredibly good! …

Beauty hotspot – Fin du jour

The promise of the discovery of a new skincare brand combined with the exploration of a new beauty haven lured me to Ghent last weekend, and whilst it had been a while since my last visit to this fair city, it was a long overdue one. I’ll tell you more about the skincare in tomorrow’s post (I can already tell you it’s a good ‘un, once more the Scandinavian prove that less is more), Equally impressive, if not more, was the beauty hotspot where the presentation was held. Proving that Antwerp and Brussels is not the only Belgian cities, Fin Du Jour is firmly placing Ghent on the map as the place to be for exclusive, hard to find, luxurious, quality beauty brands. This beauty trove is lovingly owned and curated by Miriam Rouw, beautiful inside and out, who after a career in law, decided to pursue her dreams and open her own boutique. Besides selecting those unique brands, she did a beautiful job in decoration the job, choosing a calmng, white colour scheme that …

Filorga Anti-Ageing Micellar Solution.

Also known as the trusted friend for those early mornings or late nights where I just can’t be bothered with a full double cleanse (shame on me, I know…). Wet wipes might be preferred by others, but considering that I fall into the “wet wipes are the devil’s beauty tool” category, I would rather be caught waking up with my make up still smeared over my eyes than use wet wipes. Shortly put, no matter how tired or lazy I am, wet wipes will never see the light of day in my bathroom. Flights, fannies and festivals, people! Or flights, festivals and fitness in P’s case! Saying that every micellar water is just about the same is like saying that The Guardian and The Daily Mail are both papers, and therefore the same. The Filorga Anti-Ageing Micellar Solution* is the Queen Bey of micellar waters! Touted as a cleansing solution with not only extra strenghtened hydrating properties but also anti-ageing purposes and anti-inflammatory boosters, and to be honest; from the French house specialized in estethic medicine …

Olivine Beach Hair and Body Mist

Blake Lively has long been one of my girl crushes. Impeccable taste in clothes, a baking force par excellence (just google the birthday cake she made for Beyonce!), a down-to-earth persona, and best of all, those long, blonde locks! The ultimate effortless, tousled do that many of us dreams of, but only rarely achieve (and, especially in my case, mostly obtained through a sheer stroke of luck). Mrs Reynolds might have those mermaid-esque beachy waves to render the rest of the female population green with envy, but I’ve found a little helper that aids my locks go from straight to straight-up Californian. There are many recommended ways to create those elusive wavy locks, but almost each and every one of those include the use of a salt spray. Now I personally am not a big fan of using these sprays, crunchy hair that feels brittle is not exactly my definition of healthy hair,  but nothing beats a gorgeously, tousled, undone do, so when the Olivine Love + Salt Beach Hair & Body Mist flashed across …

Help needed!

Time to be honest! Ever since having 2 children and between trying to combine those with a full time job, a househould and the blog, my organisational skills have been tried and tested, failed and improved, put through the wringer and strechted to the extreme. Shortly put, they have been the cornerstone and foundation of my day to day life, the difference between (somewhat) smooth sailing and utter stress and desperation. The school/daycare/playtime schedule has been perfected, weekmenu’s are created every weekend and their wardrobes and daily outfits, well let’s just say I’ve got that down to a t. My beauty organization however is in shambles. Lost between products to test in 2 storage cupboards, a bathroom cabinet, a bathroom drawer, a shelf and a nightstand, my skincare and cosmetics collection is nothing short of pure clutter, and I forget to use at least half of the great stuff that I have, only because I don’t know where to look first. Additionally, clutter drives me crazy and turns me into a nervous wreck, so my …

Qiriness Fresh Micellar Water

To tone or not to tone, that is a question often asked. Toner is that one step in a skincare routine that is often neglected, and if you read numerous magazines, articles and blogs, there doesn’t seem to be a general consensus on whether to include or skip this step. I personally cannot do without it, I get anxious when only a quarter remains in my current botttle, and love that feeling of freshness and purity it gives. To say that I have tested more than enough toners to fill up my kid’s pool is still an understatement, but along the way I developped a clear preference for some and an even clearer dislike for others (Katia most definitely knows which one -)). However, as you might might guess, a beauty blogger’s curiosity means that our endless quest for that new holy grail product almost never ends, so when the Qiriness Fresh Miscellar Water* was released, I couldn’t resist giving it a test run. Marketed as a miscellar water even suitable for sensitive skin, this clear …

Going Green – Caudalie Polyphenol C15

Shocker, another Caudalie piece. I know, I know *holds hands in the air apologetically*, but there is something about this brand that is stronger than myself, if they release a new product or line, I simply just have to test it. 30+ anti-ageing producs seem to be all the rage at the moment (remember the SisleYouth?), and the new Caudalie Polyphenol C15 line* is aiming for that market as well, but with an added bonus. A serum, a fluid moisturizer and an eye cream, all ready to fight that fight for me? Bring it on (and be gone, fine lines and dullness!)! There is also a night oil to this range, which I still need to test. Primary function of the line is to act as a super antioxidant, ie being a fierce protector against free radicals and a mighty oxidant booster. This protection from oxidative stress (eg pollution, stress, …) is imperative to keep wrinkles at bay or under control, hence the anti-ageing results.  Key ingrediënts for this powerplay are the grapeseed polyphenols, ie powerful molecules …

C/o Gerd Cloudberry Facial Oil

The Scandinavian countries are the epitome of cool (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun), and from these last untouched pure regions in Europe we do not only get beautiful fashion, but also some excellent organic skin care brands! Prime example: Care of Gerd, better know as C/o Gerd. Offering pure organic and natural skin- and bodycare, this brand stems from north of the Polar Circle and is by far Lapland hottest line. Creators and owners Anne- Lena Wiklund-Rippert and Johan Wiklund were born and bred in Jokkmokk, Swedish Lapland, and instead of making the trek to the big city as most of the contemporaries, they stayed up North and created their brand in their hometown, using the purest of ingredients their surroundings have to offer. Paying even more hommage to their arctic roots, the name ‘Gerd’ refers to the beauty of the Northern Light as well as it being the name of both of their mums. C/o Gerd prides themselves in being as clean as can be, ie “paraben free products, no synthetic elements added in …

SisleYouth

Your thirties are a great time to be in. None of those insecurities of your early twenties, you’re somewhat settled, have a job you (hopefully) love, a great social life and so on. Life is busy, yes, but great. And as your life changes and evolves, so does your skin. Your skin looks great, teenage, hormonal issues have passed, you have your routine down to a t, but if it is the same routine as, say, 5 years ago? If so, you may need to adapt or tweak it a little, as your skin has developped other or additional needs ago. With the passing of time, pollution, influences from outside or stress from a busy job come the first signs of ageing, such as little crow feet or laugh lines, extra pigmentation or skin that looks just that little bit more tired than it did when you were 25. You feel the need to fight those signs, start taking some proactive action, as a plain hydrating cream no longer suffices. Unfortunately, it’s still a decade …
