Sweet potato casserole

This dish is something of a true champion in Casa LeenLovesStyle. Tried and tested, it works winter and summer, as a simple meat & veg dinner or as side dish when you’re hosting a dinner party. The sweetness of the potatoes and dates is countered perfectly by the slight piney and earthy aroma of the rosemary and that gentle nudge of salt of the lardons (don’t you just love that word? Sounds so much fancier than plain bacon, doens’t it). Oh, and did I mention that the prep is super easy, and that everyone is guaranteed to love it? Without further ado, let’s dig in… Ingredients:  1 kg of sweet potatoes 5 large medjool dates 1 tbsp olive oil 1 heaped tbsp fresh rosemary (about three or four sprigs) 150 gr cured lardons Cooking time: 20 min prep time + +/- 40 min in the oven Let’s get cooking: Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Peel and cut the sweet potatoes in cubes of about 2 x 2 cm.  Place them in an oven resistant …

A Little Spring Wishing

Aka my weekend shopping list…. Spring is in the air, and I feel like shedding those dark winter tones and step into the blush and camel hints of those rays of that perfect soft first Summer light. The perfect shirt dress accompanied by the ultimate pair of high heeled sandals, a classic pair of glasses with a twist, a swish of powdery sunshine on my cheeks and a hint of coral to mak my lips pop. A few finishing touches in  the form of a sleek bag and stunning delicate earrings, and I am ready to fully savour that first Spring lunch al fresco, ginger ale in hand and the sunshine on my face! 7 Things I need to learn in 2017

It’s a brand spanking new year which means the world is once more your oyster! You can quite literally reinvent yourself to do or become anything you want, have a think about what you wanted and learned last year, and where you want to go next. I’ve never been one for grandiose and somewhat vague resolutions, they tend to always feel unattainable and never actually take flight, but one thing that does work for me are goals. Personal, professional or even financial, a goal feels realistic and obtainable, something that, whether short term or long term, feels realistic to me. Here’s a list of 7 goals that I’ve set for myself, some really small, some bigger, and by the end of 2017 I’ll reassess which  goals I obtained, and where I stumbled: 1: Drink more water. Sounds fairly easy right? And still I manage not to drink enough water. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and the odd glass of wine or bubbly, that’s not the problem, but 1.5 – 2l of water a day seems to be …

What’s cooking this weekend?

Confession: I absolutely love to cook! I may not have mentioned it before (blame my lack of self confidence and food photography skills…), but I genuinely go cuckoo over food. Crazy as I am, I actually get excited when thinking about what to make for dinner, tweaking recipes, discovering new things, flavours, cuisines,  and when my head goes into overdrive, there’s nothing quite like some time in the kitchen to calm me down (and have a delish dinner to boot). The weekend is my time to cut loose, experiment and take my time in the kitchen. No hustling up dinners in 20 mins because the kids are too tired; no being too tired to be slicing and dicing, just me, my hands, my taste buds and a delicous array of gorgeous produce. Here’s a little round up of what tickled my taste buds this week and what I cannot wait to give a try this weekend! Blogging rat race – in or out?

This article has been in my draft folder for what seems like forever, always wanting to post it, but always just a hint too frightened for it to go live. But how could this little place ever truly be my own if I can’t share what’s really running through my mind. So here it goes, and we’ll get back to the fun bit of this blog soon enough. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, so please don’t hesitate to drop me a line in the comments below. An article written a while ago by a friend of mine on him not wanting to no longer participate in today’s blogging world rat race got me to thinking. Thoughts, bits and pieces of what could become a post simmered and bubbling in my mind, and it was not until earlier today (it is now well past midnight), when I read this and this post on the fakeness of the generality of blogging, the fakeness of leading bloggers and the illusions created by their images that …

New Beauty Haven Alert – Philvert

“It’s Friday, I’m in love!” Well, in this case it’s almost Friday, but I am in love nonetheless! Today saw the launch of a brand spanking new beauty webshop, Philvert, and it’s like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter have rolled into one for this skincare lover. As it would befit a true beauty haven, Philvert is helmed by one of the most knowledgeable skincare connaisseurs out there, Philippe Bijnens. Created when his own extensive search for a Belgian webshop offering effective and organic niche brands skincare fell short, he set out to select the most effective of organic brands with that price / quality ratio we all love, and introduce them to the Belgian market. Kosas lipstocks, Kure Bazaar, Mr Bean scrubs, Antipodes, Marvis Mint, Leonor Greyl, Voya, I don’t know where to look first and more importantly, what to try first! Beauty heaven has arrived! “Practically nobody has time to fully understand what they’re buying or using for beauty and health, so we’re doing that for them, we take out the guesswork and show that there …

Clowing around in the kitchen – Marcel Wanders x Alessi Circus Collection

Very rarely do I  get transfixed by a kitchenware (or any kind of) collection. I see hundreds of new collections or launches pass by on a monthly basis, so somewhat enthousiastic or lukewarm intrigued is the best reaction I can muster most of the time. The latest brainchild of Dutch creative genius Marcel Wanders for Alessi, however, left me mesmerized with its theatrical theme. My love for all things Alessi is very well documented throughout the history of this blog, just have a little search with “Alessi” as your key word, and it’ll become increasingly clear that I am, and always have been, utterly besotted with the brand. Quirky, elegant and not quite run-of-the-mill utensils and kitchen tools that combine form and function in the most perfect of marriages, one filled with love and laughter. Marcel Wanders on the other hand is of course known for putting on a show with his works, grand in thought and execution, and this time he chose the magic and trickery of the big top and the circus as his …

Instagram Life

Busy busy busy…. that could be the tagline of my life at the moment (or at any given moment, truth be told). The kids have gone back to school, events and launches are picking up again, delicious food a-plenty and a new and exciting project at work, to say that September has been a funfair is quite the understatement….. And who/what else that my trusted Instagram / IG Stories to document it all? Taking my summer love into Autumn…

Aaaaaah Summer ’16. The summer that lasted an entire week, where at least half of my summer wardrobe did not even make it out of the closest due to a chronic lack of decent weather, and even more of my make remained unused. But above all, the summer of 16 will always be fondly remembered as the summer that I finally took the sartorial plunge. For years *I’m not kidding, I really do mean years…* I’ve been lusting, oooohing and aaahing over these long, swishy, sometimes pleated, sometimes blush coloured and always elegant long skirts, but for some reason I was always hesistant to actually buy one. Too tall, not exactly a single size figure, too much this, too little that, there was always something about my physical appearance that crossed my mind, clouded my thoughts and kept me from going for it! Well, not this year! I went for it, bought not one but two, and fell head over heels in love with long skirts! And now that summer is closing in on us, I …

Insta-Summer

Summer still is rather elusive over here (three days of warm weather in 1.5 months does not equal summer in my book!), and as a result, my inspiration is quickly plummeting as well! What better way to get for future posts than a little stroll through my past inspirations, aka my Instagram *Or as Mr B likes to call it, my annoying addiction…*? So, what has been inspiring me these last few weeks? By the looks of it, it would have to be shoes, red lips and all things monochrome, especially tea towels. Go figure!… Here are a few of my favourites! Have a great weekend, loves!
