Wanted: Christmas Inspiration

Christmas is in the air, and I am just bursting with excitement! I am beyond ready to deck the halls, decorate the tree and jingle all the way till Boxing Day! Much to my husband’s despair, I love going with a theme each, and after going red and gold these last few years, I feel torn this time. Red and gold really exudes that ultimate Christmas feeling of warmth, festivity and togetherness, but somehow I am also drawn to that crisp, fresh white Scandi Christmas feel (maybe I’ll keep that hint of gold)… On top of that, I am hosting the Christmas dinner this year and I took almost a fortnight off from work to be at home with the kids, so my mind is just bubbling with ideas, inspiration and recipes. All that’s left now is to create some order in the chaos that is my brain, and see where my hours spent procrastinating on the ingenious trap that is Pinterest will lead me… Pics via Pinterest

Headboard Dreams

We currently don’t have a headboard in our bedroom, as our bed is plainly positioned against a wall, but I can write books on the amount of times Mr B and I have gone back and forth on this subject. Yes, no, yes, no, an upholstered one, a rectangular dark leather one, yes, no, that one looks too cheap, that one is too bl**dy expensive etc etc…. We moved in together over 10 years ago, and at least half of that decade has been spent talking the talk,but not yet walking the walk. It’s been a while since we last attempted to find on that we both had an instantaneous love affair with, but lately inspiration had been bubbling again, and headboards have me dreaming once more (maybe a complete bedroom makeover whilst I am at it? ). White and gold heaven

It’s Sunday, time for my weekly interior design inspiration session, also known as “I really want to redo the whole of my house, but might have to wait a while longer….” This week, I’ve been crushing on white (#repeatoffender) with little touches of gold, both yellow and rose. A light fixture here or a kitchen or bathroom tap there, the hue of the accent forms a perfect offset that makes the white look even more pristine and calming, so hey, double whammy!

Very rarely do I  get transfixed by a kitchenware (or any kind of) collection. I see hundreds of new collections or launches pass by on a monthly basis, so somewhat enthousiastic or lukewarm intrigued is the best reaction I can muster most of the time. The latest brainchild of Dutch creative genius Marcel Wanders for Alessi, however, left me mesmerized with its theatrical theme. My love for all things Alessi is very well documented throughout the history of this blog, just have a little search with “Alessi” as your key word, and it’ll become increasingly clear that I am, and always have been, utterly besotted with the brand. Quirky, elegant and not quite run-of-the-mill utensils and kitchen tools that combine form and function in the most perfect of marriages, one filled with love and laughter. Marcel Wanders on the other hand is of course known for putting on a show with his works, grand in thought and execution, and this time he chose the magic and trickery of the big top and the circus as his …

Light as air

A while ago, I read a tagline fo an interior design article somewhere ‘Why light and airy rooms are even more popular than Scandinavian minimalism”, and somehow that just stuck with me. Because it’s true! No matter how I twist and turn it, no matter how I juggle around fancy names and aesthetics, purring how much I love a toned down, monochrome Scandinavian what’s not, light and airy will always be what  rings my deco loving heart’s bell. Come to think of it, when I dissect what exactly it is that makes an interior visually and emotionally pleasing, it all comes down to one thing: a flood of light streaming in, giving a room that airy, lighter than a feather look and feel. Organization love

I know, with a title like that, there’s bound to be some eyebrow raising and strange looks going on at the other end of the screen, but bear with me for a second. If you’ve read this blog before, you’ll probably have noticed that I have a bit of a soft spot for interior design, white and a bit of order. Combine those three together, and I am a very happy camper! Remember my office design inspiration post? One of the pictures that inspired me most was the one of a plain white magnetic board, cleverly filled with holders that keeep everything neat and tidy. But alas, as with most Pinterest images, I had no idea where or how to get my hands on it. And then the Now! mag by Hülsta caught my eye, and it’s almost as if the designers had reached inside my head, encapsulated my deco dreams and drew them into a beautiful reality. Office Envy

Another Sunday, and a rare moment of utter relaxation while my two mini’s are happily (and quietly) playing… time to get deco dreaming. A series of click throughs led me to Harper and Harley (I.Adore.Sarah!!! And her style even more so!) and more specifically her article “How To Make You Work Space Look Straight Out Of Pinterest”, and boy, I was sold. All of my office dreams had been turned into reality, and poured into visuals for me to see (and pin, and save onto several boards!). A lot of white, touches of grey and black and beautiful marble accessories and some greeneries as the finishing touch! Going Alessi for Christmas

The 6th of December has come and gone, so time to get the run-up to my pesonal highlight of the year started! A fully-fledged Chistmas lover, I’ve been wanting to break out my Christmas decorations for weeks now, and finally, I get to go all the way! Step one, lighting a gorgeously scented candle! Step two, Christmas tree and decorations galore! Step three, Instagram the jingle bells out of it! Those of you that have been reading this little corner of the blogosphere for a while (thank you so much for that, I love you all!), must already have noticed that I have a certain fondness for all things Alessi, case in point here and here! This year is no different, so when their newest Christmas tree ornaments were released, I could not get my hands on them quickly enough! Delightful, tongue in cheek and more Christmas’y than a Christmas jumper or the bad office party, these ornaments found their place in my tree quicker than you can say “kiss me under the mistletoe!”   …

Deco Dreaming – A Pinterest Worthy Office

Being the cool blogger that I am, I don’t have my own office at home. We had one, I must admit, but it got turned into a nursery when I was pregnant child nr 1., you know, priorities and all. With child nr 2, any dreams about my own office space got pushed back even further, but the dream remains! For the time being, my dining room table (or even sofa) has to do as my working area, but one day…one day I’ll have my own space! And when that day comes, I’d better be prepared, so I’ve got inspiration at the ready! My love affair with a white interior will probably never fade, there’s no doubt that my little corner needs to be a calming shade white as well! A few cabinets or drawer for storage are imperative, so that I can keep the working surface as clean and tidy as possible (tidy desk = tidy mind…), a little accessory or detail here and there, and I am a very happy camper! Marble has it! Michelangelo knew it, the Romans knew it and boy, do I know it! Marble has really been having it’s moment these last few moments, with it’s beautiful confluence of white and soft grey popping up everyhere, from serving as the best backdrop for a beauty product shot to being the hottest print for t-shirts and accessories!
