Summer Favourites

Summer really did flew by. Seems like only yesterday I was writing my June favourites post, fully intending to do one for July and one for August as well. Family issues took over, summer did not  feel like summer and before I knew it, September 1st had come and gone. However, there were a few products that I used (and repurchased) religiously these last two months, and it’s safe to say they’ve been crowned my summer favourites. I’ve gushed about the Avène Gentle Exfoliating Gel before (see this post), and described it as ‘gentle enough not to aggravate or strip my sensitive skin but efficient in it’s exfoliating ways’. It was inevitable that this was going to be one of my summer loves, it’s been repurchased, used, loved and recommended, and between this beauty and the Pixi Glow Tonic, I’ve got my exfoliation covered. Make up-wise, I’ve been loving the Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Universal Tinted Gel, Rosy Cheeks and Lips (what’s in a name), and not much else. Remember how last year’s summer somehow …

End of Summer Make Up Menu

My entire summer make up musings have consisted of my basically discarding almost all make up, a constant streamlining of my entire routine to the bare minimum *who am I kidding, I’m just downright lazy*. My three product make up look is pretty must the most often used look this summer, and even when I felt like stepping it up, I did not venture beyond one swipe of eyeshadow. I’d love to be able to say that thing shave beeen looking up and I have started putting in more of an effort since, but nooo, the summer of beauty laziness is still in full force! *sorry not sorry* These last few weeks have been jam-packed with meetings and filling in for other people, which basically meant a constant stream of people at my desk and a whole lot of stress and frustration to erase from face, so I altered my line up a bit to give it a bit more oomph, but still within the boundaries of my excessive don’t want to put in an ounce …

Guerlain Neiges et Merveilles

Snow and a winter wonderland seem to be inspiring more than one Christmas Make Up Collection. After Givenchy’s Les Nuances Glacées, Guerlain also draws inspiration from gistening snowflakes twirling the night air, revealing an icy beauty. The Winter Fairy Tale Holiday 2015 Collection (Neiges et Merveilles) focuses on taking your skin fom dull to radiant, for that much desired lit-from-within glow. I got to play with some of the products from the collection, and well, let’s  just say I’ve got my Christmas Eve base covered! After a touch up with what is still my favourite foundation, the Guerlain Meteorites Voyage Enchanté Skin-Perfecting Illuminating Matte Powder comes out to play. As contradictory as Illuminating Matte Powder might sound, this angelic white powder is billed as the perfect complexion in a compact. Resplendent in it’s weighty, shining silver enamel re-fillable compact, this  translucent matte white soft-focus pressed-powder blurs out fine lines and imperfections, so that no mater how heavy that Chistmas dinner, you’ll face will never show! Seen that porcelain isn’t exactly my colour, a soft touch of Guerlain’s …

Guerlain Crème de Beauté Pure Radiance Cleansing Cream

When Guerlain does cleansers, they’re sure to be a high end, luxurious, out of this world experience. So when the Guerlain Crème de Beauté Pure Radiance Cleanser* arrived on my doorstep, how could I resist? One fifth of a new set of cleansers, there’s also a mousse, a milk, a micellar water and a bi-phase eye-makeup remover, but you know me, I’m a cream and balm cleanser girl through and through! The entire 5-piece range is inspired by the ancient Nigella Damascena flower, which, shortly put, neutralizes the oxidation reactions caused by environmental pollution and UV-radiation. Free radicals are kept at bay, allow the skin to breathe and renew on a cellular level. So far the science class! First thing I notice is that beautiful, luxe-exuding, guilded letters adorned glass jar that quite honestly is as heavy as it looks. Not one to be pushed away in a leftover dark corner of my bathroom cabinet, the size and looks of this cleanser demand to be placed centre stage! But when a product looks and smells this good, expectations …

Guerlain Bloom of Rose Collection Rules My Autumn

Make up’s special collections and limited editions are usually all my inner magpie would ever need, flittering from one shiny colour to another deep hue. Disco ball or kohl smeared rock chick, there are more than enough options out there, but truth be told, I just cannot make them look good on me, it always ends up looking like I gave myself a black eye. Because of this, I tend to obsess over taupes, bronzes, greys and chocolates, and it is no wonder that it was love at first sight between the Guerlain Bloom of Rose Autumn 2015 Collection and myself! The soft- and freshness of roses might evoke a more spring-like kind of feeling, but gently cocooning and covering myself and my skin is all things soft and caring sounds perfect to me at the moment. The summer has been quite brutal on my skin this year, and all the things (skincare and make up) that worked for me before, now turn me into a scarecrow. Tme to try some new things, dive in head …

Guerlain Terracotta Terre D’Éte

I was discussing my ridiculous stash with one of my lesser-beauty-crazed friends, and she asked me one simple question: “Would I be able to survive without my entire cabinet, and just tone it down to only a handful of products, like her. And if so, what items would remain?” Mmmmm tough one. I ordered another drink, and throughout the rest of the afternoon, I mulled over that question. In the end, the answer was surprisingly simple. If need be, all I could not do without are a great mascara, a multifunctional concealer, and a killer bronzer. And when you say bronzer, you say Guerlain. Bronzer is one of those things where bigger is better, so when I first laid eyes in my latest bronzer addition, the Terracottta Terre D’Eté Tan Enhancing Bronzer*, hidden in it’s enormous white compact, I drew in a sharp breath. Giddy like a little child in a candy shop, I could not wait to get my hands on it! Guerlain are renowed for their bronzers (Have you ever tried their Terracotta …

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche

When Guerlain launched La Petite Robe Noire in 2012, everyone fell head over heels in love with this little black dress, at times sweet, at times smoky, but never too sultry or over the top. Like a true little black dress! This Spring, Guerlain decided to create a little sidekick to the original, a lighter, airier and greener flanker to the original, et voila: La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraîche/Ma Robe Pétales*. Developed by legendary Thierry Wasser, La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraîche/Ma Robe Pétales* fully focuses on the fresh green floral tones reminiscent of Spring, fresh air, the first flowers peeking through and blossoms colouring the streets a pale pink. With notes such as bergamot, mandarin, rose, freesia, jasmine, pistachio, almond, tonka bean, white musk and patchouli, there is a clear mix of the green-ish, clean and flowery notes. The white florals create a buzz right after that first spritz, a little fresh hum with a just a hint of vanilla,  before heading into a somewhat warmer, more gourmand finish. The pistachio does not come across very …

Mummy’s little helpers – how to look good, even after hardly any sleep.

Chances are that I look like a wreck at the moment. Beauty blogger or not, a lack of sleep has this way of causing havoc on your skin and appearance, and no one knows this better than mothers! My two little munchkins have been messing up my nightly dose of zzzzzzz’s lately, and my skin and eyes (Bags down to my knees! Red, blotchy, grainy skin!) are showing for it! However, I have a few little tricks up my sleeve that jolt my skin right back into thinking it had a full night’s sleep, after a comforting mug of ginger & lemon tea and a bowl of organic yoghurt with blueberries and some apple spiced walnut muesli, these lifesavers come out to do their job! The Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is a longtime love of mine, if soulmates came in beauty products, this would be mine! A few drops after my serum and before my moisturizer perk my skin right up, adding the necessary moisture, nourishment and calmth while providing the Vitamin A that boosts …

Guerlain Crazy Paris Christmas 2013

The Guerlain flagship store on the Champs Elysees will soon be reopened after an extensive make over, and as a celebration of that feat, Guerlain is releasing its Christmas collection in it’s (and Paris’) honour. Inspired by the Can-Can, the Moulin Rouge and those Crazy Horse beauties, this collection oozes nightly pleasures in Paris. Not quite like any other Christmas collection, this is not your classic red, gold and black offering. With mainly pinks and purples, these products will make you the star of any Christmas party by giving you radiating, glowing skin, eyecatching nails, striking eyes or enchanting lips, whatever tickles your fancy. The Crazy Paris Eye Palette Neon Look and the 2 Rouge Automatiques – 660 Illusion & 661 Reflex are beautiful in their own right, suitable for a party look but also wearable throughout the rest of the year. The Meteorites Crazy Pearls Illuminating Powder needs no further ado, this is a spin on the cult classic and is just so pretty, it doubles as a deco piece. Those who like sparkle brighther than a Christmas tree …
