Friday Beauty

Also known as back to basics. Some days you just wake up, jumping for joy at the idea of doing a three or four shadow look, foundation, concealer, eyeliner, the whole shebang. Today is not that kind of day! Today, less is more rules the roost! My skin is in tip top shape, my under eye area is neither blue nor baggy for the first time in God knows when, and I am just loving that ‘no make up’ make up freshness at the moment. Today I took that even further, and took Casual Friday to another level, and streamlined my beauty essentials to the bare minimum. Not pictured, but a firm fixture is my favourites in the Givenchy Teint Couture Balm. I’ve raved and raved and ravved about this one before, so I won’t go into details, but I’m on tube nr 3 (tube nr 4 has already been bought…), and it’s been used so much the lettering has faded from the packaging…. Givenchy and my daily make up stash have found each oher …

Givenchy Noir Couture

A mascara? I can see you sitting there, reading this, saying to yourself “what can be said about a mascara?” A whole lot, if you believe the world wide beauty web out there! Mascara is one of those beauty items that ignites one discussion after another (drugstore vs high end, black vs brown, mascara vs lash tinting and so on), but also seems to be the prime beauty bit that is always evolving and infinitely improvable. A new wand, improved formula, an intenser black, curlier curl or a  bolder result than ever before. Like the perfect little black dress, the perfect mascara needs to work for you on all fronts. It needs to be the perfect shade to complement your eyes, sublimate you lashes with what they may lack and boost their strong suits. In my case that would be emphasize their length but add that much wanted vertiginous curl… So when Givenchy’s Noir Couture 4 in 1 landed on my desk, I was, as always, intrigued and ready to rip into it. First thing …

End of Summer Make Up Menu

My entire summer make up musings have consisted of my basically discarding almost all make up, a constant streamlining of my entire routine to the bare minimum *who am I kidding, I’m just downright lazy*. My three product make up look is pretty must the most often used look this summer, and even when I felt like stepping it up, I did not venture beyond one swipe of eyeshadow. I’d love to be able to say that thing shave beeen looking up and I have started putting in more of an effort since, but nooo, the summer of beauty laziness is still in full force! *sorry not sorry* These last few weeks have been jam-packed with meetings and filling in for other people, which basically meant a constant stream of people at my desk and a whole lot of stress and frustration to erase from face, so I altered my line up a bit to give it a bit more oomph, but still within the boundaries of my excessive don’t want to put in an ounce …

Summer holiday make up (or lack thereof…)

The sun has been out and about in all of it’s crowning glory these last few weeks, and whenever that happens, my make up cravings completely dissolve into sweet nothingness. even the slightest hint of eyeshadow becomes too much to bear. Keeping that in mind, I challenged myself to pack only the bare minimum of make up for our summer trip, only allowing myself to take with that which I knew I would surely use. Turns out, I use extremely little make up on holiday (skincare on the other hand is quite a different story…). Here’s what travelled to France with me. Little clue: it’s not much…. Turns out, the bare minimum reallty is the bare minimum, because I ended up taking only three make up items with me. Not taking my mascara with me was a no go, so the Sisley So Curl Mascara got grabbed quicker than Imelda Marcos and a new pair of Louboutins. A deep, intense black colour, lashes that are instantly curled, thickened and lifted, it’s my flash wake-up trick every …

Givenchy La Révélation – A Pastel Dream

Divine and angelic may not be the first words that come to mind when I have to describe myself, but thanks to Givenchy’s latest Spring/Summer collection, all that is about to change! Givenchy La Révélation (The Revelation) hit my desk a few months ago, and a skip and a hop (and several test looks) down the road, I am ready to let you know how angelical (or devilish) my thoughts on the pieces are. Celebrating an ethereal and celestial beauty was on the forefront of Nicolas Degennes’ mind when he created this collection. Pastel shades saturate the line up of products, the pinks and peaches oozing with softness and promising to light up your face with one touch. Showstopper of the collection, as usual with Givenchy, is the Poudre Lumière Originelle*. Described as an illuminating powder with a matte effect, this might be the one powder many of us have been chasing for years. The pastel pink formula lights up your face, giving it that very ethereal, natural glow from inside with no sparkles, frostiness or …

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl

Lipproducts and me, we’ve got this on-off relationship thing going on. The bad boy of my make up relationships, it’s the product I cannot resist but that almost never ends well, and that Ikeep vowing to give up on. After a wild, heated phase full of unbrideld passion, red and dark lips leaving it’s mark everywhere, the love took a nosedive and fizzled out before Christmas… One of the things that soured the romance was how my previous attempts for long lasting colour completely dried out my lips. As much as I love a strong lip, I hate feeling that I have something on my lips (contradictory, I know…), and even more so, I hate dry lips with a passion. When the new Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl collection came onto my radar, I read “hydrating, nourishing lipsticks”, and thought “Mmmmmm, maybe….” Shortly put, the back story sounds great: 12 lipsticks, ranging from soft nudes to a bright fuchsia and even a deep black, enhanced with black rose oil for deep moisture, a silicon resin for a plumping …

Givenchy Nuances Glacées

You’re as cold as ice… Anyone remember that golden oldie from the eighties (Or am I really that old?)? Glamrock mullets and heavy eyeliner aside, there is a stunning side to ice and Givenchy nails it when trying to encapsulate this beauty. Les Nuances Glacées  the Givenchy Holiday 2015 collection was inspired by this frost-covered, breathtaking, magical landscape ice and snow creates, and it is a stunner! Exquisite packaging, not too many products, a gorgeous palette and perfect lippie, what more could I want? Highlight of the collection is La Palette Glacée, the eyeshadow palette. Having kept last year’s rectangular design and Givenchy’s signature stud, the palette is a pretty on the inside as the outside. The snow-white beauty boasts 6 colours, 3 shimmery and 3 mattes, from a white highlight to a dark brown (Marron Glacé, Bronze Caramélisé Précieux, Délectation de Blanc Irisé, Beige Rosé, Essence de Marron, Marron Praliné Onctueux). Life may be like a box of chocolates, but this palette looks like chocolate beautified! Pigmentation is is good enough so that you get a …

Face First With Givenchy

When Givenchy comes out with a new item, they usually come out swinging, with a buckload of of confidence and cool perfectly fitting their rock & roll heart! This time, will it  be a any different? Natural, glowing, lit-from-within skin still is one of the  hottest trends this year, and Givenchy is taking things up a notch with the recent release of the Givenchy Teint Couture Balm and the Teint Couture Concealer. Touted as the very first makeup-balm and a 2-in-1 “contouring” concealer, I couldn’t wait to dive in, face first! The texture of the Teint Couture Balm is the very first thing you notice, and honestly, it is hard to miss. A non greasy, creamy yet light liquid, that applies like a balm and almost feels like a touch of velvet to the skin. Big thumbs up for the texture and application, the balm almost seamlessly fuses with the skin, and their patented ‘Custom Correction’ starts to do it’s thing. Custom correction what?? Shortly put, the Teint Couture Balm contains the new Light & Blur complex made …

An Office Worthy Make Up Menu

A day at the office might not be the best time to try that new gold eyeliner or show off those killer smokey eyes tricks you’ve got, but not wearing any make up when at work? That’s a no go! Secret is keeping it fresh enough so you’ll look awake and refreshed all day long, even after back to back meetings, but at the same time soft enough so that your colleagues can focus on what you’re saying, and not the warpaint on your face. Step one, the new Avène Hydrance Optimale Skin Tone Perfector Rich. After all the BB, CC, DD cream fails of the past year, this one takes it back to basics or me. Hydration, an SPF 30, light reflecting  and soft focus particles for that summer-y hint of colour, I like! A little touch of the Dior Diorskin Nude Air loose powder sets everything in place, and the NARS Douceur blush is the blush numero une for an invisible perk-me-up boost. Next up, the eyes. My Dior quintet in Amber Design is …

Everyday handbag essentials

“Show me your handbag and I’ll know all about you”. If you take one look at my handbag and it’s contents, and you’ll see immediately that I am a big control freak, and like to be prepared for just about anything that could happen. Less is more definitely does not apply to what I lugg around on a daily  basis, and while the exact content might vary from day to day, these are the absolute essentials I always need with me! Bobby pins and elastic bands for my hair are a no brainer, I love wearing my hair down but can not stand it falling in front of my eyes when I’m working on my laptop… A lip balm is a year round necessity as well, the Kenzoki Balm for Lips to Kiss is a new discovery that has my lips loving it. A transparant, hydrating, buttery texture that sinks in easily, perfect for on-the-go touch ups. Another Kenzoki favourite is the Kenzoki Cream with a Sheen, for those moments my skin needs some extra …
