The beauty of a beauty excorcism

“The beauty exorcism” It was but a quick title in my inbox, with clickbait allures written all over it, designed especially to draw me in and extend my (already extensive) procrastination with another 15 – 30 mintes, but the words hit home and started living their own life, creating a story in my head and trickling into my subconscious. With Autumn in full swing, it is not only the perfect moment to transition into crisp skies, jaw-dropping foliage and sweater supremacy, but also a clear skin (and a clear mind). My skin has been playing tricks on me, so the need for a beauty detox matches that spin of words swindling around in my head, needing to be tamed and structurised for a greater effect. The last few months have been an (superfluous) overflow of products marching in an out of my cabinet, my routine, and while that much product testing is fun, it has been causing havoc. I’m talking blotchiness, redness, itchiness and that uncomfortable feeling of tightness and dryness, no matter how much water …

An Abundance Of Oils

What better universe to divulge yourself in than that delightful, aromatic, silky soft and golden hued one of body and face oils? My devotion to oil is no secret here on LeenLovesStyle, and with a love so devout an intense, why stick to only one product? These 4 have been on rotation lately, and here’s a little breakdown of each of them: The Avène Body Oil has long been a darling of mine, and is the epitome of minimalism. No frills or thrills, but boy does this oil deliver! Thanks to avocado and calendula oil, it breathes life back into parched skin, takes it from croco to soft & supple. Plus, the Avène Thermal Spring Water in it has this heavenly soothing effect on my itching and dry limbs. Sheer hydrating heaven! Another golden oldie in my collection is the Caudalie Huile Divine / Divine Oil, and quite frankly, the clue is in the title. Divine by name, divine by nature, this oil raised the bar when it first launched several years ago. Not only …

Bathroom Essentials – The Luxury Edition

This last Sunday, it was clear. Rain or sunshine, wailing kids or sleeping angels, something or nothing on tv, I just didn’t care. After a heavy week, a few sleepless nights and my sister’s bachelorette party, all I could think about was a bath! A long, hot, pampering session in my white personal haven, my bathtub, not even a stern Karl Lagerfeld could stop me! A super pamper calls for the luxe products to  come off the shelf, and a good sprinkling of the Susanne Kaufmann Deacidifying Alkali Salt is the perfect first step. Not just any regular bath salt, this organic composition calms down stressed limbs, eliminates any and all waste products from you skin and reduces the acidity levels so that it remains blanced and less prone to  rashes and other reactions. It’s the very first poduct I’ve tried from the Susanne Kaufmann Collection, and I must admit I am curious to discover more! Next up, my hair gets the full works with the Balmain Hair Care Repair Mask to get my strands …

Caudalie – Reigniting our love

About a year ago, smack bam in the middle of a raging love affair with Caudalie, I started testing the Caudalie Polyphenol C15 range*. Life at home with newborn and a toddler and more sleepless nights than should be allowed left me looking like my mum (sorry mum!), and let’s be honest, I’m not 21 anymore, so whatever anti-ageing and general boosting miracle you would have thrown at me, I would have caught with open arms! “Primary function of the line is to act as a super antioxidant, ie being a fierce protector against free radicals and a mighty oxidant booster, imperative to keep wrinkles at bay or under control.  Key ingrediënts for this powerplay are the grapeseed polyphenols, ie powerful molecules Caudalie extracts from their own grapes, and has been proven to be 10.000 times more effective than regular Vitamine E. Additionally, these polyphenols have been coupled with stabilised Vitamin C, so that the youth-preserving and protecting capacities of both ingredients are even intensified.” As you could read in my first write up (head on over for …

Winter wonders

Every year, well in the thick of January, the weather seems to take a turn for the worst over here, with the already cold temperatures dropping even more, a soft, delicate blanket of snow tenderly covering every possible surface before disappearing again the next day and winds turning chillier as if they haven’t convinced you of their withering powers yet. So when skin get itchy and flaky, hair gets extra static and you generallly feel discomfort, you know it is time to bring out the big guns, the winter-beating wonders. Though a hot, steaming shower might seem like the perfect antidote to a chilly winter’s day, it does more harm than good. a gentle wash with the Avène XeraCalm Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil* gives my itchy limbs the relief they so desperately need, without further irritating or aggravating it. So soft and gentle I even use it on little Miss C as well!  The La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+* hardly needs any explanation. a firm favourite of LeenLovesstyle (read here why), this French miracle worker soothes and relieves dried …

Going Green – Caudalie Polyphenol C15

Shocker, another Caudalie piece. I know, I know *holds hands in the air apologetically*, but there is something about this brand that is stronger than myself, if they release a new product or line, I simply just have to test it. 30+ anti-ageing producs seem to be all the rage at the moment (remember the SisleYouth?), and the new Caudalie Polyphenol C15 line* is aiming for that market as well, but with an added bonus. A serum, a fluid moisturizer and an eye cream, all ready to fight that fight for me? Bring it on (and be gone, fine lines and dullness!)! There is also a night oil to this range, which I still need to test. Primary function of the line is to act as a super antioxidant, ie being a fierce protector against free radicals and a mighty oxidant booster. This protection from oxidative stress (eg pollution, stress, …) is imperative to keep wrinkles at bay or under control, hence the anti-ageing results.  Key ingrediënts for this powerplay are the grapeseed polyphenols, ie powerful molecules …

Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream

Eye creams is one of those highly debatable topics in beauty land, there are the believers that swear by eye cream to keep them looking fresh and fruity and there are the non-believers that can’t be bothered with this extra step in their routine. I for one fall in the first category and religiously apply it every morning and evening. A tiny dab of product around the bottom part and side of the eyes to keep them hydrated, soft, smooth and firm. This led me to test the Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream*. Now, as attested by previous articles on this blog, Caudalie and I are a match made in heaven, but will this be a follow up on our love affair? Or is it the first bump in the road? The Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream* comes from the brand’s anti-aging success story, the Premier Cru line, and is spearheaded as an anti-aging cream promising to refresh and firm the eye contour by erasing dark circles, reducing puffiness, smooth out skin and soften fine lines, giving …

Caudalie Beauty Elixir High Fashion Makeover

My love for Caudalie has been well documented on this blog. A well thought out brand with highly active ingredients, great products and active supporters of natural skincare, “cosm’ethics” as Mathilde Thomas loves to call it. In 2012, the brand became a 1% for the planet member, using 1% of their worldwide turnover to implement and support environmental projects.  One of their most popular products, if not the brand’s bestseller, is the iconic Caudalie Beauty Elixir, and it’s getting a high-fashion makeover courtesy of L’Wren Scott. Since it’s launch in 1996, this bottle of goodness has sold over 2 million times, and now, to celebrate her love for this product, the fashion designer has created a bespoke design for a limited edition of 50.000 bottles. Based on her 2013 Fall/Winter collection, inspired by artist Gustav Klimt, the feminine drawing on the bottle reminds me of the curves of the female shape, whilst at the same time evoking images of sprawling vines.   The Beauty Elixir Spray is branded as a skin-care product, with ingredients such as rosemary leaf oil, …

Battle of the oils

In the left corner… de Le Petit Marseillais Sublimerende droge olie met karité, zachte amandel en arganolie. In the right corner de Caudalie Huile Divine droge olie.

A Divine Summer
