A Little Spring Wishing

Aka my weekend shopping list…. Spring is in the air, and I feel like shedding those dark winter tones and step into the blush and camel hints of those rays of that perfect soft first Summer light. The perfect shirt dress accompanied by the ultimate pair of high heeled sandals, a classic pair of glasses with a twist, a swish of powdery sunshine on my cheeks and a hint of coral to mak my lips pop. A few finishing touches in  the form of a sleek bag and stunning delicate earrings, and I am ready to fully savour that first Spring lunch al fresco, ginger ale in hand and the sunshine on my face! Twitter Tasting – Bruichladdig

Life is all about firsts, better try something new and fall flat on your face than not to try anything at all. I try to live by these words, and so last Thursday evening, I went out on a limb and joined in a Twitter Tasting of Bruichladdich’s Limited Edition 10 Collection, ie the Bruichladdich Laddie Ten, Octomore 10 and the Port Charlotte 10. Pushed way out of my comfort zone, it was an amazing way to push my boundaries on a number of levels, not only when it came down to the actual tasting and iscovering notes and hints, but also in regards to my photography. Photography has slowly evolved into a love of mine ever since I started this blog, but food photography has always remained a bit elusive (hence the lack of food posts on this blog, despite my huge love for cooking and food).  Capturing that golden hue of the liquid, reminiscent of it’s barley core, or highlighting it’s pure Hebrid heritage and Scottish origin was imperative to me, so I …

My Hair Has Gone Into Weekend Mode….

And so have I! After a few weeks of plainly tending to my hair, and giving it all it needs, I’ve been slowly thinking about styling it a bit, changing it up a bit. Now don’t go imagining elaborate updo’s or twisted braids, my hairdressing skills don’t exactly go further than messy waves or a top knot… Soft, tousled waves  have long seemed like an impossible dream—the hair equivalent of no-makeup makeup, appearing effortless, but more often than not, requiring a batallion of tools. However, these two recent discoveries have proven to be quite handy (see what I did there :-)) and not a tool in sight but a spritz, a crunch and my two hands. Step one is the Miriam Quevedo White Caviar White Glacial Leave-In Conditioner. Miriam Quevedo has already seen some love on this blog before (see here), and this new spray continues that love streak. A combination of oils (Camellia, Baobab and White Caviar), Vitamins and Hyaluronic Acid keep my tresses strong, bouncy, resilient and frizz free without weighing them down, …

Wishlist Wednesday – K/Metal Signature Bag

Bonjour mon amour! As much as Mr Lagerfeld would disapprove on sight if he ever met me (double digit size, strong willed and quick-witted, it’s fair to say I do not behold to Mr Lagerfeld’s standard of what a woman should be), I must concede that he does have an eye for beauty and elegance. From the first picture straight to my wishlist in a heartbeat, that’s about how my first impression of the new Karl Lagerfeld K/Metal Signature Shoulderbag went. Clean lines, smooth, strong and structured leather and one striking detail instead of tassels all over, je l’adore! Adorned with Mr Lagerfeld’s signature, the black one just exudes timeless elegance, yet gives off a little hipster vibe at the same time! Hey Mr B, we’ve got a wedding anniversary coming up….

Instagram Life

My blogging game might not yet be up to par, but I’ve been excelling in the Instagram department lately. Ever since the launch of IG Stories, I have not used Snapchat once, and have been more and more into creating a cohesive IG feed (not quite there yet, but, the fun is in trying!). Below a little peek into what made it onto my feed, or just hop on over here to see everything! Happy Friday everyone! View this post on Instagram Morning glory. 3 ways a classic – The light blue button down

A little line in a article written by a dear friend of mine (this article if you’re interested) about no-buy February and shopping her stash got me to thinking. Sure, she was talking about a no-buy period and her beauty stash, but the princinple behind it made me rethink some of my latest purchases, and especially my fashion buys. After a few eclectic years and random buys, I started being sensible about what I purchased about 6 months, continuously choosing quality over quantity and only byuing items that would work with my existiing (and rather extensive, I must admit) wardrobe. Now it’s time to take it one step further, and start shoppig my stash, or in this case my wardrobe for long forgotten items or new combinations. Truth be told, I have about a dozen cotton button downs hanging in my closet, their white and blue shades a reminder of my corporate days, and the last time I wore any of them was probably on my last day being a corporate machine about two years …

Friday Face

Hint, there’s not a lot going on! After last Summer’s make up funk (Want to know what funk? Read here), I still have not ventured back into a three colour eye look or a full face of make up. A crisp, perfect base, mascara and a lipstick to match my mood, and I am a happy camper. A flick of black liner when I feel fancy, but that is about it. My eyeshadow singles, duo’s and palettes have not moved an inch since last June, heavily neglected. These last few weeks, I keep reaching for the same combination, let’s call it my ‘Basic’s Deluxe’ look. First up, two pea sized drops of the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer prove to be the perfect base coat, smoothing out what needs to be smoothed out without being too slippery or oily. I then buff in the Sisley Anti-Ageing Foundation with the Beautyblender for a natural look with a good dose of medium coverage. The Sisley foundation is rather new to my collection, but it was an instant …

IKKS x K-Way

Oh how I remember the fashion from my childhood!  More nightmare-ish than stylish, the 80’s and 90’s were not exactly the height of sophistication, and, as my mum likes to remind me every.single.time we go shopping together for kids’ clothes, “There were just no cute clothes back then”. Case in point, that dreadful K-Way every kid wore to school on rainy days. A plastic fantastic example of colourblocking till your eyes hurt, and when not needed, it became a fanny pack-esque belt that flipped up and down each time you took a walk. Never in a million years did I think about getting my kids one. Till earlier this week… In the corner of my eye I saw a kids’ coat flashing by on my screen, all exuberant in it’s monochromatic beauty and urban cool. Cue my surprise when I discovered it was the latest K-Way offering! Digging a bit deeper led me to discover that IKKS had married their French Rock Chic vibe to K-Way’s iconic Claude 2.0 for a limited edition unisex model. …

7 Things I need to learn in 2017

It’s a brand spanking new year which means the world is once more your oyster! You can quite literally reinvent yourself to do or become anything you want, have a think about what you wanted and learned last year, and where you want to go next. I’ve never been one for grandiose and somewhat vague resolutions, they tend to always feel unattainable and never actually take flight, but one thing that does work for me are goals. Personal, professional or even financial, a goal feels realistic and obtainable, something that, whether short term or long term, feels realistic to me. Here’s a list of 7 goals that I’ve set for myself, some really small, some bigger, and by the end of 2017 I’ll reassess which  goals I obtained, and where I stumbled: 1: Drink more water. Sounds fairly easy right? And still I manage not to drink enough water. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and the odd glass of wine or bubbly, that’s not the problem, but 1.5 – 2l of water a day seems to be …
