Frederic Malle Cologne Indelebile

It’s almost a rite of passage, every girl in her teens gently wants to foray in the wonderful world of perfumes. Those first scents, often a gift from a loving parent (hi mum!) seem to have taken on a an almost ritual and iconic reputation, try imagining how many teenage girls started their journey into the art of fragrances with a bottle of Tommy Girl, D&G Light Blue, DKNY Be Delicious or any of the Cacharel offerings. Fast forward some fifteen years, and my taste has well evolved from that first bottle of Ralph my mum got me for my 15th birthday. After a little pit stop to dabble in the realm of commercial hits such as J’Adore and Ange ou Démon (remains an all time favourite!), I’m succumbing to the mysteriousness, elegance and uniqueness of niche perfumes. One of the first brands on my list to discover was Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle, a brand that has been blazing the trail for niche perfumes worldwide these last few years. Seeking to create specific fragrances …

Wishlist Wednesday – Aerin fragrances

I’ve been grinning like a Cheshire cat ever since February 11, and the reason for that is very clear. That day was the very day the lustworthy, covetable and delectable Aerin fragrances finally found their way to the Belgian market. I lusted and hovered over her beauty and fragrance collection last time I was in London, and still regret not bringing home that Evening Rose I fell in love with. Fashion, lifestyle and beauty, all rolled into one brand, breathing femininity, elegance and class. Founded by Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of Estée Lauder herself, this luxury lifestyle brand encompasses fragrances, beauty, fashion and home deco, each and every item exuding Aerin’s personal, impeccable taste (just google the images of her Aspen home!) Her first foray into her own brand was the launch of her 5 signature scents: Evening Rose, Ikat Jasmine, Amber Musk, Gardenia Rattan and Lilac Path. Each and every one highly personal and based on emotions, dreams and memories, these fragrances represent 5 situations that can have this immediate effect of wellbeing on anyone, …

Balmain Hair Care

A great deal of raving about this line by Katia has tickled my interest, and I am now on the brink of shelling out the big bucks to give this line a try and see if it is all it is cracked up to be. Haute Couture Hair Care does have a certain ring to it (luxury kitten over here, I admit it…), and when you look at the description of the two product lines within the range, it really sounds promising. The Balmain Hair Couture comprises of 2 different lines, the Moisturizing & Volume Line, and the Styling Line. Both containing silk protein and argan oil, combining the know-how of the Parisian house and the strength of the ingredients to get that Ooohh-la-laa worthy shiny effortless chiq hair of the Parisian woman. Add that signature Balmain fragrance in the mix, and you’ll understand why I am so keen n trying this range. And as if that wasn’t enough reason, the packaging is a sight for sore eyes as well. Sleek, clean, no nonsense but …

Christmas Wishlist – Acqua di Parma Candela Gemme Argento

November 1st has just passed, and that always seems to be the moment for me to shift my focus and get into that deco mode that I so clearly lack in the summer. Fresh flowers remain a constant year round, but come summer, I pretty much want to come out of hibernation and into the light, so all interest in cozy-ing up the house seems to vanish into thin air. Indian Summer marks the beginning of colder seasons ahead, and thereby slowly lighting that spark that brings out my inner deco designer. The leaves start tumbling down, the air has a chillier feel to it and the sun turns a different kind of yellow, somewhat more orange, casting a beautiful light on the caleidoscope of reds, oranges, yellows and greens on the ground.  Same as last year, I welcomed Autumn into our home by making this Autumn in a bowl, and now that October has officially come and gone, I can up the ante even more and start celebrating those wonderful two months that build up to …

Help needed!

Time to be honest! Ever since having 2 children and between trying to combine those with a full time job, a househould and the blog, my organisational skills have been tried and tested, failed and improved, put through the wringer and strechted to the extreme. Shortly put, they have been the cornerstone and foundation of my day to day life, the difference between (somewhat) smooth sailing and utter stress and desperation. The school/daycare/playtime schedule has been perfected, weekmenu’s are created every weekend and their wardrobes and daily outfits, well let’s just say I’ve got that down to a t. My beauty organization however is in shambles. Lost between products to test in 2 storage cupboards, a bathroom cabinet, a bathroom drawer, a shelf and a nightstand, my skincare and cosmetics collection is nothing short of pure clutter, and I forget to use at least half of the great stuff that I have, only because I don’t know where to look first. Additionally, clutter drives me crazy and turns me into a nervous wreck, so my …

Summer Fragrance Romance

A day not spritzed is a day not lived. That sounds like something my Nan would say, and in a way it is as true as can be. Fragrances are just another way of expressing you identity, an open possibility to unleash that rebellious streak when working in a strict, bland corporate environment, or to boost your confidence for that first date. It’s is almost like lingerie, with it’s way of embracing you with it’s softness, lingering on your skin and if you want it to, only to be known and felt by yourself. There is this common saying that you should only wear certain types of fragrances in certain seasons, that you should have a winter and a summer staple, etc etc, which, to be honest, might work for others, but I don’t care for at all. Just wear whatever you feel like wearing that day, whether it is Tom Ford on a sweltering summer’s night, or Acqua di Gioa in the nick of winter. I’ve been keeping track of the perfumes I’ve been …

5 Things

It’s been a while since my last post thanks to our summer holday, and while it was a very relaxing one, with some much needed R&R,  family time with husband, kids and relatives, it was also a fortnight of reflection. The sangria flowed (a dear friend offered me an AA membership…ooops), the children were in bed and many nights were spent talking, and pondering, and talking some more… Many things raced through my mind the last few weeks, and what better way to get started again than with my current 5 things: * Change: A change of pace, a change of scenery, a change of plan. The kind of change that rocks you to your core, makes your heart beat faster and makes you feel alive and bursting with energy. It’s been a few tough months in some areas, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. A change is coming! * Sun: We’ve only been back less than a fortnight, but as the Mediterranean weather was a bit of a letdown, my battery of sunshine did …

Wishlist Wednesday – Tom Ford Velvet Orchid

Tom Ford, aka The Master of Sensuality, truly has the Midas touch. Just about everything he creates turns to gold, and the latest addition to his Tom Ford Signature Collection is no exception to the rule. Bold, glamourous, elegant and powerful, his ideas embody modern-day femininity. Building further on the base provided by Black Orchid, the master now releases Velvet Orchid, an oriental floral scent with that same promise of being glamourous, unique and potent. Created by Yann Vasnier, Calice Becker, Shyamala Maisondieu and Antoine Maisondieu and described as a hybrid of Tom Ford Noir and Black Orchid, this scent enchanted me even before I had even sniffed it. After opening with that same hypnothic and earthy touch as the original Black Orchid, the difference between the two becomes crystal clear. Honey, Succan absolute (purified rum extract), mandarin and bergamot take over, before giving way to the core of black, purple and velvet orchid, blended with jasmine and Morroccan and Turkish rose oil for that floralness. Other florals complementing this core are orange blossom, rose absolute, narcissus, hyacinth and …

Karl Lagerfeld fragrances for Him and Her

King Karl reigns supreme! Anything any other brand does, Karl Lagerfeld usually tends to do it better. Not one to follow trends but one to make trends, he also only does things when he feels the time is right. After last year’s gorgeous Choupette collection, he’s now back with his next big launch, his own perfume for him and her! “Perfume is like fashion for the nose!” Karl Lagerfeld Perfumers Christine Nagel, Jean-Chistophe Hérault and Serge Mjoullier were tasked with creating and Eau de Parfume for women and an Eau de Toilette for men, with the brief being an fragrance translation of Karl’s esthetic: “A modern approach of traditional ideas”. This resulted in a female fragrance that is in fact a study in contrasts: Crisp, fresh lime and soft peach to make way for a core of roses, magnolia and plumeria (frangipani). After a few hours, this will round out with soft amber and musk notes. Edgy and elegance combined! The male fragrance is slightly different, but still cut from the same cloth. Timeless yet …

Chris Pine – The new face of Armani Code

Sometimes Hollywood’s finest and Italy’s finest meet, and it is a match made in heaven. Today saw the announcement of such a collaboration, with the presentation of actor Chris Pine as the new face of the Giorgio Armani fragrance “Armani Code” “Chris perfectly embodies the brand’s spirit with his strong charisma and natural elegance. Besides revealing great talent, high versatility and the right amount of irony on set, his magnetic charm makes him the ideal match for this fragrance” Giorgio Armani. Well known for his parts as Captain Kirk in the ‘Star Trek’ movies or as the titular character in ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’, the actor will be featured in the new advertising campaign for this frangrance that rolls out worldwide this Spring. Granted, this is a male fragrance, so maybe it’s more Phil’s cup of tea than mine, but a sensuous yet timeless fragrance coupled with Mr Pine’s “magnetic charm”? Count me in!
