Covering my bases with the essentials

It is no secret that I absolutely love love love Avène! Several friends recently asked me if I could recommend some great skincare brands, and so I got to thinking. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that, even though they all have different skintypes and issues they want to adress, my mind kept going back to one brand in particular. Avène has been a lifesaver of mine in more situations that I dare to admit, having saved and soothed my skin after an allergic reaction to another brand more times than I can recall. But where to start? What to go for first? As the wise Julie Andrews would sing: “Let’s start at the very beginning!”. Keeping that in mind, Avène released ‘The Essentials’, a duo that takes us way back to the basics, proving that all that glitters ain’t gold when it comes to skincare. Sure, us bloggers can be real magpies when it comes to new products, but sometimes it’s good to realise that content is far more important than packaging, …

Thank you Nivea for making beach days easier with my kids!

Life’s a beach! Or how I would love it to be so! I love the beach, Mr B loves the beach, and to say that the kids love the beach, well that’s a bit of an understatement! However, the protective side of a day at the beach, yeah, they’re not so keen on that. You know that mum that is always running across the sand, trying to catch her kids, shouting “Get back here, you need more sunscreen!” That’s me! And those kids making a run for it, not wanting to be covered in sticky, white goo? You guessed it, my two rugrats. Turns out, Nivea has me covered. Anything that glides on like one, two, three makes my kids happy. and when the kids are happy, the parents have it a lot easier as well. The iconic blue bottles of Nivea sunscreenhave been a constant presence on almost each and every holiday I’ve ever been on in my life, and this summer, they have tweaked and improved their offerings a bit. First up, the …

Winter essentials – Body Care

Even tough temperatures aren’t as winter-y as they should be, I’m still indulging in a winter routine as if the outside temperatures are below arctic levels. It may not be freezing, but somehow my skin seems to think it does, and has turned into large sheets of sandpaper *winter skin alert*. Time to bust out the anti-winter guns! Nothing beats the winter blues like a good shower (not too long, not too hot unfortunately…), and when you say shower, you say Nivea! Like a big, fluffy, comforting hug made of soap, the Nivea Care & Cocoa is sheer indulgence for my skin (without the fancy price tag). A pure shot of shea butter, with a soft, subtile scent to match. Under the motto: “If it’s good enough for my children, it’s definitely good for me!” the Uriage Cleansing Protection Oil is a relatively new addition to the shower shelf, but one with an impact. One of the few products that works for both mine and Little Miss C’s diva skin, this one got bumped to …

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler CC Cream Light

Just when I thought the alphabet cream rage was over, and I had found my personal favorites, another one comes popping up. Givenchy and Filorga still rule the roost, but the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler CC Cream Light managed to tickle my interest. French pharmacy brands are a firm favourite of just about anyone even remotely interested in beauty, and with France being a neighbouring country to dear old Belgium, I grew up with the likes of Avène, La Roche Posay and Eucerin. The Eucerin AtoControl Bath & Shower Oil keeps finding it’s way to our bathroom winter after winter ever since I was a little girl, and now the brand is tipping it’s toes in the CC cream waters. More a fusion of make up and skincare than most other BB, CC and DD Creams, the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler CC Cream Light marries that splash of moisture and coverage with what I want most fom my skincare at the moment, a first dose of anti ageing! Gotta keeps those wrinkles at bay! Yes sweeties, this sounds like my kind of cream! Eucerin had me at …

Happy New Year!

2015 has come and gone, 2016 has begun, and so has all the fun! (See what I did there!). Even though the 1st of January is already behind us, I still wanted to take a little moment  before getting back into the swing of things. Before anything else, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support this past year! Every single read, like and comment (both on- and offline!) meant more to me than you’ll ever realize, and I am extremely grateful for each and every one of them.  2015 was a bit of a rocky year, both personally and on the blog, but a new year offers a chance to start afresh. Time to write that new chapter! For that new chapter, I would love your input! What do you want to see more or less of on LeenLovesStyle? Less beauty? Or even more beauty? Increase the fashion dose? Or maybe inject a bit more lifestyle? Maybe a bit more structure? Let me know …

Everyday handbag essentials

“Show me your handbag and I’ll know all about you”. If you take one look at my handbag and it’s contents, and you’ll see immediately that I am a big control freak, and like to be prepared for just about anything that could happen. Less is more definitely does not apply to what I lugg around on a daily  basis, and while the exact content might vary from day to day, these are the absolute essentials I always need with me! Bobby pins and elastic bands for my hair are a no brainer, I love wearing my hair down but can not stand it falling in front of my eyes when I’m working on my laptop… A lip balm is a year round necessity as well, the Kenzoki Balm for Lips to Kiss is a new discovery that has my lips loving it. A transparant, hydrating, buttery texture that sinks in easily, perfect for on-the-go touch ups. Another Kenzoki favourite is the Kenzoki Cream with a Sheen, for those moments my skin needs some extra …

Firming up with Nivea

Just as nearly any woman, I have my hang ups about my body, these little things that seem to bother no one else but that make me feel insecure and self-conscious. Fight the flab is a daily struggle of mine (not a size 6 here!), and any product that can help me with that is a friend of mine! Nivea is one of those brands that I can remember using since forever. My mum used it on  herself, my sister, me, my dad sneakily stole our jars when he had a skin-issue, my nan proudly displayed her blue jar in her bathroom… I could write an entire book on my whole family being Nivea addicts. So who better to turn to when fruit and fitness aren’t enough to make that pesky cellulite I have going on disappear! Will the Nivea Q10 Good-Bye Cellulite Firming Shower Gel* magically zap away all that wibbly bobbly skin? And all that in a multifunctional shower gel? Fingers crossed! Main flab fighters of the shower gel are L-Carnitine, Lotus-extract and Nivea’s famous Q10. …

Caudalie – Reigniting our love

About a year ago, smack bam in the middle of a raging love affair with Caudalie, I started testing the Caudalie Polyphenol C15 range*. Life at home with newborn and a toddler and more sleepless nights than should be allowed left me looking like my mum (sorry mum!), and let’s be honest, I’m not 21 anymore, so whatever anti-ageing and general boosting miracle you would have thrown at me, I would have caught with open arms! “Primary function of the line is to act as a super antioxidant, ie being a fierce protector against free radicals and a mighty oxidant booster, imperative to keep wrinkles at bay or under control.  Key ingrediënts for this powerplay are the grapeseed polyphenols, ie powerful molecules Caudalie extracts from their own grapes, and has been proven to be 10.000 times more effective than regular Vitamine E. Additionally, these polyphenols have been coupled with stabilised Vitamin C, so that the youth-preserving and protecting capacities of both ingredients are even intensified.” As you could read in my first write up (head on over for …
