A Succulent Snickers Milkshake Showdown

You see what I did there? The perfect marriage of two of my biggest loves, food and word wizardry! I know we’re only just recovering from the annual food coma fortnight, but hear me out. One of my main goals for 2018 is a healthier lifestyle, body, mind and soul, but with an 80/20 perspective, with a sense of kindness for my body. That kindness goes both ways, with both a healthy nourishment and a little less severity and strictness. A little treat goes a long way, and what could be a better off-day treat than this Snickers Milkshake? Just look at that gorgeous creaminess, that delectable, smooth shake whispering “Come hither”!

Sure, below version is quite a big cheat-treat, but give it your own twist! Make it as succulent and scrumptious as you want or need. Have fun with it! Whip it up in a minute (#easiestrecipeever) whenever you feel like spoiling yourself or your loved ones.  The one you see below is the full-on version adored by my kids, but keep on reading for my little tips and tricks for a slightly healthier version for yourself.

 Ingredients:

  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 mini Snickers or half a normal sized bar in small slices
  • 2 teaspoons of chocolate sauce
  • 100 ml of milk
  • Whipped cream and any other topping of your choice

Put the ice cream, Snickers slices, chocolate sauce and milk in a blender, and blend until completely smooth. Pour into a glass and finish with a topping or your choice. As I said, easiest recipe ever!

I admit, this will never be the healthiest shake ever thanks to that little fun calorie-filled Snickers part, but you can try and balance that by using unsweetened almond or rice milk instead of normal milk. I’ve tried switching out the chocolate sauce for raw cacao powder, couldn’t restrain myself and finished the glass quicker than ever before. Or forego the normal ice cream for a cleaner version. I keep frozen pureed bananas, sugar-free ice cream and a dairy-free one in my freezer, and will often go for one of those to transform my guilty pleasure into something a little less guilty. And go on, just look at it…
